This Tetrode is rather like a big 4Cx250. You can even use the same
power supply, though it is best to operate in grounded screen mode. The
anode dissipation is 1kW. Although they can be used on 2m, it is difficult
to get them to work. With 3kV on the anode, I only managed 500W output,
but that was more limited by the EHT transformer as efficiency was only
30%. The ARRL have published a design that gives much improved results
but it is complex. The 4CX1500 is a better bet.
Probably the best thing for a 4CX1000 owner without an ARRL amplifier to do is to either sell it to an HF operator, or use it on 6m - where it is formidable. |
